Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate

⚠ Not in the USDA Database: Cold brew coffee concentrate doesn’t have its own entry in the USDA FoodKeeper database, which sources our other 732 food storage pages. The guidance below comes directly from Stumptown Coffee Roasters’ own storage instructions, one of the category’s leading brands.

Once opened, cold brew concentrate in a glass bottle lasts 10–14 days in the fridge — Stumptown’s own support page confirms this directly. Unopened, refrigerated concentrate is good for a generous 180 days. If you make your own at home, expect a shorter window of about 7–10 days.

How long does cold brew coffee concentrate last in the fridge?

Stumptown’s own support page states: “The shelf life on our Cold Brew… Concentrates… is 180 days when refrigerated properly… Glass bottle of Cold Brew Concentrate we recommend drinking within 10-14 days after opening.”

Worth noting: Stumptown’s ready-to-drink cans and “stubbies” (single-serve bottles, not concentrate) have a shorter opened window — just 2–3 days — since they’re already diluted to drinking strength rather than a concentrate meant to be mixed with water or milk. If you’re not sure which format you have, check the label.

If you make cold brew concentrate at home rather than buying it pre-made, Stumptown’s own homemade cold brew guide says: “Homemade cold brew lasts 7–10 days when stored in the refrigerator. After that, the flavor starts to degrade.”

Can you freeze cold brew coffee concentrate?

Neither of Stumptown’s guides mentions freezing directly, but cold brew concentrate generally freezes well compared to many beverages on this site — it’s mostly water and dissolved coffee compounds, without the fats or proteins that cause texture problems in plant milks or dairy alternatives. Freezing in an ice cube tray is a popular method for portioning out concentrate for iced coffee without watering it down as the ice melts.

How to tell if cold brew coffee concentrate has gone bad

  • Smell: a sour, musty, or distinctly “off” odor beyond its normal rich coffee smell
  • Taste: Stumptown’s own guidance notes flavor simply starts to fade past the recommended window — a flat or dull taste is a quality sign, not necessarily a safety one
  • Appearance: any visible mold or unusual film on the surface
  • Packaging: a bulging or swollen container — discard without tasting

Storage tips

  • Keep cold brew concentrate refrigerated at all times, both before and after opening
  • Reseal tightly after every pour
  • Write the open date on the bottle — 10-14 days for store-bought concentrate, 7-10 days if homemade
  • Dilute with water or milk just before drinking rather than storing it pre-diluted, which shortens the window

Why isn’t this covered by USDA?

FreezerOrFridge.com’s 732 core pages pull their storage times from the USDA FoodKeeper database, which doesn’t currently include cold brew coffee concentrate — a growing beverage category that hasn’t made it into that federal dataset yet. This page instead relies on Stumptown Coffee Roasters’ own published guidance.
